Мета:

Навчальна: ознайомити учнів з географічним положенням Ірландії, з національними символами країни, формувати навички монологічного та діалогічного мовлення з теми, роботи з текстом та відеоматеріалом для отримання нової інформації, повторити вживання граматичних форм активного та пасивного стану дієслова, удосконалювати навички аудіювання, практикувати у роботі в парі, в групі, формування комунікативних вмінь та навичок;

Освітня: розширити знання про культуру країни, збагачувати духовний світ особистості;

Розвивальна: розвивати мовну здогадку, мовні здібності, пізнавальний інтерес до вивчення англійської мови, здатність до логічного викладу думок, загальнокультурні вміння спілкуватися з іншими людьми, соціокультурну компетенцію учнів;

Виховні: виховувати повагу до культури, традицій іншого народу, вміння прислуховуватися до думки інших.

Обладнання: відеоролик «Ірландія», «Meet the Real St.Patrick», портрет У.Б.Йєйтса, Св.Патрика, комп’ютерні презентації, картки до презентації, вірш англійською та російською «The Lake Isle of Innisfree», текст«Irish symbols», листки конюшини.

Aim

Good morning, pupils! We have an unusual lesson today. Our lesson combines several different subjects – English, Music, Literature, History and Geography. You have been studying all these subjects for several years and know many facts about different countries. Today we are going to learn some more facts about one of the most beautiful parts of the planet Earth at our lesson. Our lesson is unusual and the country we'll speak about is unique. Why is it so? This part of Europe is known as the Emerald Island.

Warm up

Look at the video and in few minutes say what associates did you have watching the video? (video «Іreland») FROM 11 SEC.
So, please, take shamrock’s leaves and put them on the board.

Do you know who is it? He is famous Irish poet, the Nobel winner for literature William Batler Yeats wrote some poems about his Mother land. So let’s revise his poem.

(Pupils listen to the record of the poem “The Lake Isle of Innisfree”, then read the the poem. One of the pupils recites the translation by Anna Blaze)

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,

And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:

Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,

And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,

Ireland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The Republic of Ireland and the Northern Ireland are located on the eponymous island in the Atlantic Ocean. The island is washed by the Irish Sea, North and St. George’s Channels. The territory of the Republic of Ireland is 70,273 km² and the territory of the Northern Ireland is 13,800 km².

The capitals are Dublin and Belfast. The population of the countries are 3,8 mln. people and 1,7 mln. people There are two national languages: Irish and English.

Ireland is a picturesque country and there are many places of interest. The main attractions of the country are based in Dublin and in Belfast. You have to visit Trinity College, Dublin Castle and the Irish state gallery. One of the most important attractions in Dublin is St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which is the largest church in Ireland. There are a lot of castles, fortresses and ancient churches, which kept the memory of centuries-old history in Belfast. You can visit Opera House or Royal Bridge, the library Linen Hall or Waterfront Hall.

Ireland is a truly wonderful country!

You know a lot about Northern Ireland as a part of the United Kingdom and less about the Republic of Ireland. But these two countries have a lot of common in culture, traditions, history etc. What do you know about a harp, shamrock and Celtic Cross? May be you know who are leprechauns? Yes, all these are the symbols of Ireland.

But we’ll not only read the text about Ireland’s symbols, let’s remember grammar. Read and open the brackets using the correct tenses.

Irish symbols

The Symbol of the Irish Harp
